However, surgical treatment is more popular than CPAP in Korea. We conducted a questionnaire survey of the OSA patients to find out what the sleep disordered-breathing patient think about CPAP treatment.Method We included 149 patients who performed split night polysomnography for sleep apnea and Snoring. All patient experienced CPAP in the latter part of the sleep study, and answered questionnaire after the sleep study.Result 120(80.5%) patients were male. Average age was 48.6±12.25. 19 patients were upper airway resistant syndrome, 69 patients were mild to moderate OSA, and other 61 patients were severe OSA. Mean AHI was 35.3±28.35. Among 149 patients, only 44 patients (29.5%) have been told about CPAP therapy. 50 patients wanted CPAP therapy as their first treatment, and the other 99 patients wanted surgeries first. Most surgery-first patients said they chose surgery because they wanted to eliminate snoring with just one surgical operation (70.6%). Severe OSA patients chose CPAP more than mild to moderate OSA patients (42.1% vs. 28.1%). The patients felt discomfort with air pressure (58%), and position limitation (22%). Only 20 patients are using CPAP therapy continuously after sleep study. Patients gave up CPAP due to discomfort and high expenses. Conclusion CPAP treatment had less popularity than surgery, and most OSA patients usually thought CPAP therapy was uncomfortable and expensive. And our results also show that physicians need to concentrate giving the patients more information about OSA treatment including CPAP therapy.
