TY - JOUR T1 - Multidisciplinary approach as a tool for personalised treatment in obstructive sleep apnea: a retrospective analysis JF - ERJ Open Research JO - erjor DO - 10.1183/23120541.sleepandbreathing-2017.P41 VL - 3 IS - suppl 1 SP - P41 AU - Daniela Carioli AU - Michele Romano AU - Alessandra Colombo AU - Mirko Marra AU - Marco Mantero Y1 - 2017/04/01 UR - http://openres.ersjournals.com/content/3/suppl_1/P41.abstract N2 - Aim To evaluate if a multidisciplinary approach could change the indication treatment when Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is not indicated or not effective.Materials and Methods Every patient evaluated at IRCCS Fondazione Ca'Granda Policlinico Milano for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) without indication to CPAP because of mild disease, or with indication to CPAP, but with intolerance or low efficacy, was evaluated for an alternative or a complementary treatment by a multidisciplinary team that included a pulmonologist, a otolaryngologist, a maxillofacial surgeon and an internal medicine specialist.Results A total of 70 patients were evaluate from March 2015 to September 2016; 53 patients (75%) were male; the mean (+/- sd) age was 53.46 (+/- 13.70) years.The mean (+/- sd) Apnea/Hypopnea Index (AHI) was 31.56 (+/- 21.79) events/hours; 19 patients with AHI from 5 to 15 event/hours; 23 with AHI 15 to 30 events/hours and 34 patients with AHI more than 30 events/hours. Main comorbidities: Arterial hypertension.More options became available after the multidisciplinary evaluation (figure 1). A significant reduction of the patients without treatment options was found; respectively 20 patients (28%) before and 2 patients (3%) after the discussion p<0.001.Conclusions The multidisciplinary approach could be useful to find more treatment options and to reduce the number of patients without therapy.
