Through patient-centered care, health care providers can collaboratively negotiate treatment plans with patients to support safe and effective asthma medication use [24]. In addition, patient-provider communication that bolsters trust, hope and confidence may contribute to optimal adherence by fostering continuing care and commitment to asthma medication regimens [25–27].
