Diagnosing asthma in young children: Current research & recommendations
2010, Journal of Pediatric Health CareCitation Excerpt :The same degree of impaired lung function has not been observed in children in whom asthma developed after their sixth birthday (Chipps). Some researchers have proposed that there is a “window of opportunity” to treat young persons with asthma and prevent or minimize loss of lung function (Haahtela, 2006). Delay in treatment may result in irreversible effects on lung growth and development (Irvin).
