Abstract
Introduction: This study is conducted to determine the characteristics of the OSAS patients with a history of cardiovascular event (CVE).
Methods: For this multicenter study, the patients with OSAS (AHI> 5 / hour) who had a history of CVE (coronary angioplasty with/without stenting, coronary bypass grafting or cerebrovascular event) after the onset of the symptoms related to OSAS were recruited as the study group. The control group included the patients without a history of CVE. The weight, subjective sleep duration, smoking and menopausal status and the presence of comorbidities before and after CVE were also questioned during the follow up visits and by phone calls. This data was compared with the control group.
Results: Out of 272 patients, 254 patients (100 study group and 154 control group) were included. The mean age of the study group at the time of CVE and gender distribution was similar with the control group. The pre-CVE active smoking status and family history for CVE% were statistically higher in study group. Post-CVE clinic and polysomnographic data were also analysed. The results were summarised in Table 1&2.
Conclusions: In this study, the demographic and polysomnographic characteristics of OSAS patients with CVE were presented in detail. Smoking and family history for CVE must be questioned in the risk stratification of OSAS. Polysomnograhic differences may be etiher a consequence or a risk factor of CVE.
