This is particularly paramount for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchial asthma, which are the largest contributors to the global respiratory disease burden [1–3]. However, errors in inhalation technique and device handling are common, and can subsequently affect therapy efficacy [4]. This can then lead to insufficient treatment, increasing health care costs, and higher CO2 emissions [4].FootnotesThis manuscript has recently been accepted for publication in the ERJ Open Research.
